THE 1940S

THE 1940S

In 1946, Paul F. Iams establishes his pet food company with the belief that innovation will lead to superior quality, thus enhancing the health of dogs and cats.

THE 1950S

THE 1950S

In the 1950s, the first IAMS® product, IAMS 999, is launched. It is the first pet food to use animal-based protein as the primary protein source in a pet food.

THE 1960S

THE 1960S

IAMS researchers are busy in the 1960s, launching IAMS® Plus after 11 years of formula research, as well as realizing the importance of beet pulp for intestinal health.

THE 1970S

THE 1970S

During the 1970s, IAMS® introduces a new product, IAMS® Chunks for Dog, and debuts the iconic paw print logo.

THE 1980S

THE 1980S

In the 1980s, IAMS® changes the face of the pet food aisle, introducing pet formulas based on life stages by launching a custom puppy formula. IAMS® also debuts the “rainbow of colors” packaging design, IAMS Cat Food, and IAMS Biscuits for Dog.

THE 1990S

THE 1990S

The ’90s is a decade of innovation for IAMS® as it introduces a line of natural pet food, canned cat food, and research showing the connection between omega-6, omega-3, and healthy skin and coat.

THE 2000S

THE 2000S

In the 2000s, IAMS® introduces IAMS® Premium Protection™, the most advanced IAMS® formula yet, and adds DHA to all puppy formulas to help brain development.

THE 2010S

THE 2010S

In the past few years, IAMS® has stayed busy, introducing Shakeables™ dog treats, IAMS® Woof Delights™, and IAMS® Purrfect Delicacies™, and updating package designs for several iconic product families.
